The 12-Point Inspection Checklist
Buying a used Technogym machine from a private seller or liquidation auction? Don't hand over the cash until you've verified these critical points.
Safety First: Always unplug the machine from the wall outlet before removing the motor hood or touching internal electronics.
Part 1: Treadmill Mechanics (Excite / Artis)
1. Check for "Inverter" Errors Turn the machine on. If you see "Inverter Error" or "Drive Fault" on the screen immediately, the Lower Control Board or Motor is dead. This is a $1,000+ repair.
2. Inspect Belt Friction (Amp Draw) Walk on the belt at 3mph. If it feels like it is "stuttering" or hesitating, the deck and belt are worn out (high friction).
3. Roller Noise Test Run the empty machine at 10mph. Listen for a high-pitched whining or grinding sound from the front or rear. This indicates bad roller bearings.
4. Elevation Test Take the machine to max incline (15%). Listen for clicking. Ensure it goes all the way up and comes all the way down without stalling.
Part 2: Console & Electronics
5. Touchscreen "Dead Zones" (Visio/Unity) Enter the service menu and run a touch test. Drag your finger across the entire screen. VisioWeb screens often develop dead zones in the corners.
6. Button Membrane Response For LED consoles, press every physical button. They should "click" and respond immediately. If you have to press hard, the membrane is failing.
7. TV Tuner Functionality If TV is important, plug in a Coax cable. Many used units have broken internal tuners even if the screen works fine for apps.
Part 3: Strength Equipment (Selection Line)
8. Cable Coating Inspection Run your hand (carefully) along the entire length of the cable. If the plastic coating is cracked or missing, the cable MUST be replaced immediately.
9. Guide Rod Lubrication Lift the weight stack. It should move silently. If it scrapes or chatters, the guide rods may be pitted (rusted) or dry.
10. Selector Pin Engagement The yellow magnetic pin should slide easily into every weight plate. If it sticks or doesn't align, the frame may be bent or the stack guides are misaligned.
Part 4: Cosmetic & Structural
11. Sweat Corrosion Check the base of the frame (especially on treadmills). Bubbling paint indicates rust from years of sweat dripping. Structural rust is non-repairable.
12. Cracked Shrouds Inspect the plastic covers. Technogym plastic is expensive to replace. A cracked motor hood is a safety hazard.
